Action for Street Kids is a welfare based charity working with child soldiers and homeless children and young adults in the UK and overseas.
We have continued to support projects that provide direct services such as outreach on the streets, night shelters, day centres and residential homes that care for and protect the lives of children.
We believe that each person is special, and given the chance to grow mentally, physically and spiritually can lead a happy and rewarding life finding and fulfilling there own individual talents, dreams and abilities.
Millions of children live permanently on the streets deprived of any parental love or support. Escaping poverty, violence and abuse at home they end up homeless uncared for and alone. Life on the streets is harsh and children, often as young as just 8 or 9, face exploitation, hunger, squalor, illness and death.
In certain parts of the world children find themselves on the streets as a result of being orphaned by AIDS or because they have been former child soldiers.
To survive they scavenge food from dustbins, work in crowded polluted streets, or become involved in prostitution. They end up existing on the outskirts of society in a world where drugs, crime, violence and exploitation reign.
And it is here that Action for Street Kids works.
Through the projects ASK supports we help provide the basic necessities of life; food, shelter, medical care, and love. We offer each child the chance of a better life, and the opportunity to find and fulfill their dreams and abilities.
Our projects provide a lifeline to children. Often it is the only one they have.
The charity now supports projects in Egypt, Uganda, Iraq, South Africa, Thailand, India, Peru, Bolivia, Kenya as well as the UK in Rhyl, Rotherham and Loughborough.
The charity’s purpose is to work with small locally run projects not only helping the children who live there but supporting financially local people who work in these projects.
Action for Street Kids has run by its Trustees on a voluntary basis. We have no full time employees and no office costs. As a result over 85p in every pound goes direct to the projects we support.
