Charwood Independant Youth Action
Background
CIYA is a UK charity which aims to assist homeless young people aged 16-25 years in Charwood, Loughborough. As well as helping these young people to gain access to accomodation in housing-association or council propetires (either CIYA's on-site hostel, single person flats or other placements off-site), the charity provides support services and life skills designed to resolve problems faced by the young people.
In addition to these core activities, CIYA also runs a project, Liberation Learning, which focuses on facilitating integration for asylum seekers and immigrantsm and a sports initiative, Sports Buddies, enabaling a number of young people to have free access to a local gym and many others to participate in sporting activities.
Nomad
Rotherham, United Kingdom
Background
The Nomad Project was established by a group of homeless people themselves to provide accomodation for young homeless people on Sheffields and Rotherham. The Rotherham project provides short term hostel, supported living flats and independant living flats. The project works with up to 40 yound people. Action for Street Kids provoides financial assistance for an 'Activity Fund', which enabales young people a greater level of independence. So far ASK has donated a total of £27,550 to the Nomad Project.
